Part Time Dog Walker

We are currently looking for a part time dog walker to walk 4 to 5 groups of dogs per week (a 2-3 day per week schedule). Opportunities for additional walking days & occasional pet sitting jobs are possible in the future.

Job Description

This position includes driving to pick up and drop off walking groups, hiking at designated trails for 60 minutes, cleaning up dog waste while on the trail, completing dog report cards and maintaining basic obedience with dogs participating in groups. We walk rain or shine, so this can be a wet/hot/cold/dirty job. One group walk takes about 2-3 hours including pick up & drop off time.This is a very physically demanding and dirty job! That being said, it’s also a lot of fun.

Other job responsibilities include basic grooming, nail trimming, giving baths, puppy or senior dog visits, private walks,  returning client phone calls, attending new client interviews, dropping client payments off at our office in Sausalito and distributing marketing materials to designated locations.

Job Requirements

1. Marin residents are highly preferred. This job entails a lot of driving, and living in Marin reduces your driving time and gas costs considerably.

2. Must have a vehicle large enough to comfortably hold 4-5 large dogs. SUV or van is ideal. You are responsible for vehicle maintenance and gas costs.

3. Must have cell phone and easy access to email/internet/text messages for last minute schedule changes. Ability to post photos to our facebook fan page via phone is a plus, but not required.

4. You MUST have previous experience working with or volunteering with dogs in a professional setting or formal education in dog behavior/management. Special consideration is given to applicants who have graduated from DogTec’s Dog Walking Academy or SFSPCA’s Dog Trainer’s Academy.You must be comfortable using positive reinforcement training methods; we DO NOT use any type of physical corrections or physical manipulation with dogs.

5. You must be comfortable working with all breeds of dogs, be physically capable of walking 2-5 miles on hilly and steep trails, and able to lift 50lbs and handle dogs up to 130lbs. Experience with cats and other small pets a plus, we do offer pet sitting services!

6. You must be patient and gentle with dogs that may not be doing exactly what you’d like!

7. You must be available between the hours of 10am-4pm on group walk work days.

8. Must be at least 18 years of age; hold a valid CA Driver’s License, & show proof of insurance with a clean DMV record.

9. Must be friendly and personable with clients.

10. Reliability is a must! We do not tolerate tardiness or unwarranted absences.

11. Canine First Aid Certification or completion of certification upon hire.

12. You must be willing to have a background check done prior to hiring.
